Seagull 1963 Chronograph Reissue - A Tribute to a Classic

More than 50 years ago, Sea-Gull created a classic with its pilot's watch. The chronograph from 1963 convinced with its groundbreaking robustness and reliability.

The new edition of this watch from Seagull is in no way inferior to the legendary original. The chronograph is powered by an original Seagull ST19 hand-wound movement with a 36-hour power reserve. In addition to the classic version with cream-coloured dial, 38mm case diameter and acrylic glass, we also offer many other variants. Among them 40mm and sapphire crystal.

Except for the Classic/38mm/acrylic crystal version, the chronographs have a Seagull ST19 movement with a swan-neck fine adjustment.

All models come with box, papers, the classic nato strap and an additional leather strap (with quick-fit pins).

Variants:

  • Classic/38mm/acrylic glass
  • Classic/38mm/Sapphire crystal (with swan neck fine adjustment)
  • Classic/40mm/Sapphire crystal (with swan neck fine adjustment)
  • Green/38mm/Sapphire crystal (with swan neck fine adjustment)
  • Panda/38mm/Sapphire crystal (with swan neck fine adjustment)
  • Black/38mm/sapphire crystal (with swan neck fine adjustment)

All our 1963 chronographs go through strict quality controls, which is why we give a 2-year guarantee.

Case

The stainless steel case of the Seagull 1963 is available in two sizes: 38mm and 40mm. The height is 14mm. The finish of the surfaces is predominantly polished, which gives the watch a noble appearance despite its vintage look. The bezel is designed very discreetly with a slight rounding, thus allowing the greatest possible view of the beautiful dial.

The classic version of this watch (Seagull 1963 38mm) has a domed acrylic glass that corresponds to the original from 1963. The other variants (Seagull 1963 38mm & Seagull 1963 40mm) are fitted with a more modern, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The curvature of the sapphire crystal is minimal, giving the watch a modern look. It is also placed lower in the case and therefore does not build up as high as the acrylic glass version.

All versions of the Seagull 1963 have a large sapphire crystal case back that reveals the beautiful hand-wound movement. This Seagull Chronograph is water-resistant to 5 ATM, but this watch belongs more in the air than in the water. The pushers of the chronograph are kept simple. The crown shows a polished star with a matted border and thus picks up the theme of the "Red Star" once again.

Dial

The dial of the Seagull 1963 Chronograph Reissue is available in many variations. What they all have in common is a satin finish with applied indices and numerals. Depending on the variant, the hands are either blued or illuminated. The classic version of the 1963 has a beige dial with blued hands and red stop-second hands. The indices and numbers are gold-coloured. The red star at 12 o'clock, which gives the watch its name, is set off with a golden border. The lettering at 6 o'clock shows "中國制造" "Zhongguo zhizao", which means "Made in China".

The prints on the dial look very high quality and sharp. The workmanship of the dial is impeccable.

Strap and Clasp

All variants of the 1963 from Seagull are delivered with a nylon strap as standard. This type of strap is typical for pilot watches and acquires a very beautiful patina with regular wear. The classic version has a natu-green colour. Other variants, however, also have strap colours that match the dial. In addition to the nato straps, Bartels Watches also offers high-quality leather straps with quick-change connectors. This transforms the Sea Gull 1963 from a sporty pilot's watch into a noble vintage chronograph in no time at all.

Both straps close securely with a stainless steel pin buckle.

At the heart of the Seagull 1963 beats the original Seagull ST1901 movement

The Seagull 1963 is powered by the famous ST 19 or ST 1901 hand-wound movement. Both the 38mm as well as the 40mm chronograph use the same Tianjin Seagull movement.

  • Type: Hand-wound
  • Functions: Hour, minute, second, chronograph
  • Jewels: 21
  • Power reserve: 36h
  • BPH: 21,600 bph

Seagull ST1901 Chronograph

Tianjin Seagull is one of the world's largest movement manufacturers today. The ST1901 movement of the Seagull 1963 is a switching wheel chronograph that was designed for the pilot's watch of the Chinese army and was designated ST3 in 1963. The focus of the ST19 movement is smoothness, robustness and durability. This is also confirmed by many reviews of Seagull 1963 watches. Should a service be necessary after many years, the supply of spare parts for the ST 1901 is assured, as it has become a very popular and widely used movement.

As a small improvement, all ST19 manual winding movements of the sapphire crystal versions are equipped with a swan-neck fine adjustment. This allows an even more precise regulation of the movement and thus an even higher rate accuracy.
